London startup ecosystem

What makes London's startup ecosystem distinct - sector concentrations, tech clusters and the talent pipeline that feeds the city's startup scene.

Largest tech ecosystem in Europe

London has the highest concentration of tech capital in Europe by a wide margin - billions of pounds deployed annually across venture, growth and PE-led rounds. The city has produced more unicorns than the rest of the UK combined.

Fintech is the standout cluster

Revolut, Wise, Monzo, Cleo, Starling and Octopus Energy are all London-headquartered or founded here. The city is the world's second most active fintech hub after New York, with deep regulatory expertise via the FCA and a dense ecosystem of supporting investors.

Distinct tech clusters across the city

Shoreditch and Old Street (Silicon Roundabout) anchor consumer and SaaS. King's Cross is the AI cluster - Google DeepMind, Meta and the Francis Crick Institute. Canary Wharf and the City sit at the fintech, lending and trading core. West London around Imperial College is the deeptech and life-sciences hub.

Engineering and finance talent pipeline

Imperial College, UCL, King's College London and LSE feed engineering, computer science and finance graduates. Cambridge and Oxford alumni are a strong feeder pipeline. The city's investment-banking and consulting base provides a deep secondary supply of senior finance and operating talent.

Accelerators and angel networks active in London

London hosts Europe's deepest mix of accelerators and angel networks. These are the most active programmes founders consider when raising at pre-seed and seed in the city.

Seedcamp

Seedcamp is Europe's foundational seed fund, founded in London in 2007. Backs pre-seed and seed companies across fintech, SaaS and consumer with tickets typically €100k–€500k. Portfolio includes Wise, Revolut, UiPath and Robin AI.

Entrepreneur First

Entrepreneur First is London-headquartered and operates a talent-investor model - recruits potential founders pre-team and forms companies in cohorts. Notable portfolio: Magic Pony Technology (acquired by Twitter), Tractable, Cleo and Stori.

Techstars London

Techstars London is the London cohort of the global Techstars accelerator network. Sector-agnostic with strong fintech and consumer track record. Standard $120k investment with mentor-led 13-week programme.

Founders Factory

Founders Factory operates as a corporate-backed venture builder partnered with Aviva, easyJet, Holtzbrinck and others. Runs an accelerator and a venture studio targeting fintech, healthtech, climate and AI.

Antler London

Antler London is the London cohort of the global Antler pre-seed venture programme. Recruits potential founders, supports company formation and invests €100k+ tickets. Heavy AI and SaaS focus.

UK Business Angels Association

UKBAA is the trade association coordinating much of the UK structured angel scene - Cambridge Angels, London Business Angels, Envestors and the broader syndicated angel community. Useful starting point for founders mapping the angel landscape.

London startup accountants vs Flow fractional CFO

Most London startups work with a chartered accountancy firm for tax, payroll and Companies House filings. That role is essential and required by law - but it does not replace a fractional CFO.

London startup accountants

Statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT and payroll. The firms most-used by London venture-backed startups.

  • Cooper Parry

Startup-focused chartered firm with a deep VC-backed and high-growth client base.

  • BDO

Top-six firm with a large tech and growth-stage practice covering Series A through pre-IPO.

  • Saffery

Boutique chartered accountants with a long-standing tech, media and creative industries practice.

  • Haines Watts

Mid-market firm strong in SME and owner-managed business advisory, with growing startup coverage.

  • Crowe UK

Mid-market accountancy network covering tax, audit and advisory for growth-stage companies.

Flow fractional CFO

Financial modelling, FP&A and fundraise prep. We work alongside your accountant - not instead of them.

  • Builds the financial model - revenue assumptions, headcount, unit economics, runway.
  • Sets up the monthly FP&A cycle: budget, forecast vs actual, variance analysis.
  • Puts together the monthly board pack - P&L, cash, KPIs and forward outlook.
  • Prepares the fundraise: investor model, deck financials, data room and diligence prep.
  • Keeps the cap table tidy and handles EMI option grants and HMRC valuations.
  • Reports on the KPIs that move the business - ARR, gross margin, CAC payback, retention.
  • Pressure tests hiring, pricing and big spend decisions against the model before the founder commits.
  • Sits in board meetings and is embedded week-to-week, not just engaged annually for compliance.

Simple pricing

No hidden costs, no complicated long-term contracts. We understand how important flexibility is for London startups.
