Fractional CFO services in Berlin

Berlin is Germany's largest tech ecosystem and ranks among the top fifteen startup cities globally by Startup Genome's index, with 4,800+ active companies, 23 unicorns and €5bn+ deployed annually across venture and growth rounds.

The city has anchored Europe's consumer internet, fintech and defence-AI waves - N26, Trade Republic, HelloFresh, Zalando, Celonis and Helsing all trace their origin to Berlin.

We work with Berlin-based startups from seed to Series B+, supporting them on financial modelling, fundraise prep, cap table management, board packs, FP&A and pricing decisions.

Berlin startup ecosystem

What makes Berlin's startup ecosystem distinct - sector concentrations, tech clusters across the city and the talent pipeline feeding its venture scene.

Germany's dominant startup hub

Berlin ranks #15 globally and #3 in Europe by Startup Genome, with 23 unicorns and a workforce that is 49% non-German - making it the most internationally diverse tech talent pool in the DACH region. Annual VC deployment regularly exceeds €5bn.

Consumer, fintech and defence-AI anchors

N26 (€800m+ raised), Trade Republic (€1.1bn Series C), and Zalando (€5bn+ revenue) define Berlin's consumer-fintech axis. Helsing - Europe's largest defence-AI company at a $12bn valuation after its June 2025 raise - has put Berlin on the map for dual-use deep tech.

Distinct clusters across the city

Mitte and Kreuzberg host the dense SaaS and consumer internet concentration, centred on co-working hubs in the Factory network. Friedrichshain carries the e-commerce heritage of Zalando and HelloFresh. Prenzlauer Berg has emerged as a quieter B2B software cluster for later-stage scale-ups.

Engineering talent from TU Berlin and Charité

TU Berlin, Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität produce the core engineering and computer-science pipeline. Charité feeds the healthtech cluster. The city's large consulting and investment-banking presence - Deutsche Bank, Roland Berger, McKinsey Berlin - provides a secondary supply of senior finance and operations talent.

Accelerators and angel networks active in Berlin

Berlin has one of Europe's deepest concentrations of pre-seed and seed accelerators. These are the most active programmes founders consider when starting or scaling in the city.

APX

APX is the early-stage accelerator jointly backed by Axel Springer and Porsche. It offers €50k for ~5% equity in a 100-day programme, with optional follow-on of up to €500k per company. Focus is consumer, media, SaaS and mobility - a direct expression of its two corporate parents.

Antler Berlin

Antler Berlin is the German cohort of the global Antler pre-seed network. It recruits potential founders individually, supports company formation in a six-month residency programme, and invests €100k+ tickets at formation. Heavy AI and B2B SaaS focus in recent cohorts.

Techstars Berlin

Techstars Berlin is the Berlin cohort of the global Techstars network - a sector-agnostic, 13-week mentor-led programme with a standard $120k investment. Strong track record in fintech and consumer, with global alumni network access.

Entrepreneur First Berlin

Entrepreneur First operates its talent-investor model in Berlin, recruiting individuals pre-team and supporting company formation in cohorts. The programme is most relevant for technical founders looking to form a co-founding partnership during the programme rather than arriving with a team.

Axel Springer Plug and Play

Axel Springer Plug and Play runs cohort-based acceleration focused on digital media, content technology and ad-tech - sectors where Berlin retains a strong commercial heritage. Backed by Axel Springer's €8bn media group with direct distribution and commercial pilot access.

Wayra Deutschland

Wayra Deutschland is Telefónica's corporate venture arm in Berlin, investing €50k–€200k tickets into early-stage startups with a telecoms, IoT and B2B software bias. Portfolio companies gain direct access to Telefónica's European commercial footprint.

Berlin startup accountants vs Flow fractional CFO

Most Berlin startups work with a Steuerberater (tax advisor) or Wirtschaftsprüfer (auditor) for GmbH/UG incorporation filings, VAT returns, payroll and annual statutory accounts. That role is legally required - but it does not replace a fractional CFO.

Berlin startup Steuerberater

Statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT and payroll. The firms most used by Berlin venture-backed startups.

  • Ecovis KSO

Startup-specialist Steuerberatungsgesellschaft within the Ecovis network, with a heavy SaaS and e-commerce client base in Berlin.

  • Startup Tax

    Digital-first tax office focused entirely on venture-backed companies - DATEV-integrated, remote-first and GmbH-experienced.

  • KPMG Innovation Hub Berlin

Big-Four coverage for Berlin scale-ups approaching Series B and pre-IPO, with dedicated technology and venture practice.

  • Rose Partner

Multi-city firm (Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne) recognised by Handelsblatt and brand eins for corporate law and startup tax advisory.

  • PKF WMS

Mid-market Wirtschaftsprüfer and Steuerberater with a growth-stage company practice covering audit, tax and R&D-credit optimisation.

Flow fractional CFO

Financial modelling, FP&A and fundraise prep. We work alongside your Steuerberater - not instead of them.

  • Builds the financial model - revenue assumptions, headcount, unit economics, runway.
  • Sets up the monthly FP&A cycle: budget, forecast vs actual, variance analysis.
  • Puts together the monthly board pack - P&L, cash, KPIs and forward outlook.
  • Prepares the fundraise: investor model, deck financials, data room and diligence prep.
  • Keeps the cap table tidy and handles VSOP/ESOP option grants and 409A-equivalent valuations.
  • Reports on the KPIs that move the business - ARR, gross margin, CAC payback, retention.
  • Pressure tests hiring, pricing and big spend decisions against the model before the founder commits.
  • Sits in board meetings and is embedded week-to-week, not just engaged annually for compliance.

Simple pricing

No hidden costs, no complicated long-term contracts. We understand how important flexibility is for Berlin startups.
