Fractional CFO services in Belo Horizonte
Belo Horizonte is the birthplace of San Pedro Valley - Brazil's most distinctive regional startup community, founded in 2011 when a group of tech entrepreneurs began meeting in the São Pedro neighbourhood bars near Savassi.
That community has produced Hotmart (a unicorn-valued edtech platform that created the creator-economy infrastructure for Brazil), Méliuz (Brazil's first cashback company, IPO'd on B3 in 2020), Take Blip (enterprise conversational AI, acquired by investors at significant scale) and Sympla (Brazil's leading events platform, acquired by Movile). Minas Gerais is Brazil's second-highest concentration of startups by state, with over 780 active companies.
We work with Belo Horizonte-based startups from seed to Series B+, supporting them on FP&A, unit economics, investor reporting, fundraise prep, runway management and equity/option grants.

Belo Horizonte startup ecosystem
San Pedro Valley - Brazil's most cohesive regional startup community
San Pedro Valley is a founder-led community, not a formal institution - named after the São Pedro neighbourhood near Savassi where its founding cohort worked and socialised. Since 2011 it has grown to 200+ member startups employing approximately 12,800 people. It has produced four venture-scale companies: Hotmart (unicorn), Méliuz (B3-listed), Take Blip (enterprise AI) and Sympla (acquired by Movile). The community dynamic is unusually collaborative - members share talent, capital introductions and commercial partnerships.
Edtech, SaaS and fintech are the leading verticals
Hotmart - which built the infrastructure for Brazil's digital content creator economy before this was a recognised category globally - remains the defining company of the BH ecosystem. The platform processes BRL billions annually for 300,000+ content producers across 188 countries. Méliuz pioneered cashback in Brazil and listed on B3. Take Blip is Brazil's leading enterprise conversational commerce platform, competing with international CX vendors across WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger integrations.
Savassi, Lourdes and the São Pedro neighbourhood
Savassi is BH's commercial and startup core - the highest density of co-working spaces, tech company offices and founder-frequented venues in the city. The São Pedro neighbourhood (which gave San Pedro Valley its name) sits between Savassi and Funcionários, the traditional professional services district. Lourdes houses many of the city's larger tech company offices and the private schools and hospitals that attract senior professional talent. UFMG's main campus is in Pampulha, with strong connections to the Savassi startup core.
UFMG, PUC Minas and the Minas Gerais engineering pipeline
Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) is one of Brazil's top five universities by research output and produces a deep engineering, computer science and mathematics pipeline. PUC Minas is the largest private university in Minas Gerais and a significant feeder into the startup ecosystem. Centro Federal de Educação Tecnológica de Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG) produces applied engineering talent. The combination creates a cost-competitive senior technical talent pool that is one of BH's structural advantages over São Paulo.
Notable startups founded in Belo Horizonte
The San Pedro Valley community has produced a concentrated set of category-defining Brazilian tech companies - demonstrating that BH can build venture-scale businesses on a capital-efficient BH cost base.
Hotmart
Hotmart is the defining company of the BH tech ecosystem - a unicorn-valued digital content and creator economy platform founded in Belo Horizonte in 2011. Processes transactions for 300,000+ content producers across 188 countries. Co-founders João Pedro Resende and Mateus Bicalho built Hotmart in BH before opening offices in São Paulo, Madrid and Orlando. Raised capital from DG (Japan) and TA Associates.
Méliuz
Méliuz pioneered the cashback segment in Brazil and became the first San Pedro Valley company to list on B3 (2020). Founded in 2011 by Israel Salmen and Ofli Guimarães, Méliuz subsequently acquired Bankly and Alter Finance to expand into embedded banking. One of the most successful IPOs of the 2020 B3 tech wave.
Take Blip
Take Blip is Brazil's leading enterprise conversational commerce platform, enabling companies to build intelligent assistants on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. Founded in Belo Horizonte in 1999 as a telecoms software company, Take pivoted to conversational AI and rebranded as Blip. Processes billions of monthly messages for enterprise clients including Itaú, Natura and Ambev.
Sympla
Sympla is Brazil's dominant event management and ticketing platform, founded in Belo Horizonte. Handles online and in-person events ranging from conferences to music festivals. Acquired by Movile - the Rio-founded mobile commerce holding company behind iFood. Sympla processes millions of tickets annually and is the standard ticketing infrastructure for mid-to-large Brazilian events.
Beep Saúde
Beep Saúde is a Belo Horizonte-founded home healthcare platform - bringing clinical services including laboratory tests, vaccines and nursing care directly to patients' homes. One of the most active health-tech companies in the BH ecosystem, scaling across Brazil's major metropolitan areas. Represents the emerging health-tech vertical in the San Pedro Valley community.
Government and institutional support for Belo Horizonte startups
Belo Horizonte and the Minas Gerais state government have built a series of public-sector innovation programmes to complement the private San Pedro Valley community. These are the most active public-sector platforms for BH founders.
BH-TEC - Parque Tecnológico de Belo Horizonte
BH-TEC is the technology park run jointly by UFMG, PUC Minas, FIEMG and the Belo Horizonte municipality. Houses 100+ resident companies spanning software, biotech, energy and advanced manufacturing. Acts as the main bridge between UFMG's research output and commercial companies. Provides subsidised office space, lab access and grant application support through FAPEMIG and FINEP.
Inseed Investimentos
Inseed Investimentos is Belo Horizonte's most active seed-stage VC fund - a government-supported fund-of-funds manager, backed by BDMG (Minas Gerais development bank) among others. Invests in BH and Minas Gerais-based early-stage tech companies. Inseed is the primary institutional bridge between the San Pedro Valley community and formal venture capital - most BH startups raising their first institutional round encounter Inseed.
Fundação Lemann
Fundação Lemann is the educational foundation of Jorge Paulo Lemann - Brazil's wealthiest individual and a co-founder of 3G Capital. While primarily an education foundation, Fundação Lemann runs significant innovation and entrepreneurship programmes with strong BH presence, particularly in edtech - the vertical most aligned with Belo Horizonte's Hotmart legacy.
FAPEMIG - Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais
FAPEMIG is the Minas Gerais state research foundation, equivalent to São Paulo's FAPESP. Provides R&D grants for university spin-outs and innovation-stage companies in Minas Gerais. Runs co-investment programmes with FINEP (federal innovation agency) and BNDES. The primary grant mechanism for UFMG and PUC Minas deep-tech founders commercialising research.
SEBRAE Minas - Startup Minas
SEBRAE Minas runs the Startup Minas programme - the Minas Gerais edition of SEBRAE's national startup acceleration initiative. Provides mentorship, workshops, grant access and connections to the Minas Gerais investor and corporate network. One of the most active state-level public programmes for BH founders at pre-seed through early seed.
