Fractional CFO services in Medellín
Medellín has executed one of the most striking urban rebrands in Latin America - from the world's most dangerous city in the early 1990s to South America's fastest-growing startup ecosystem according to StartupBlink's 2024 index, climbing 17 spots globally in a single year.
That transformation was deliberately engineered: Ruta N, the city's public innovation district in the Sevilla neighbourhood, was established in 2009 as a joint project between the city government, EPM (the public utility) and UNE, and has since become the institutional anchor of Medellín's tech ecosystem - investing in infrastructure, co-working facilities, startup support and corporate innovation programmes.
We work with Medellín-based startups from seed to Series B+, supporting them on FP&A, fundraise prep, runway management, investor reporting, hiring plans and financial modelling.

Medellín startup ecosystem
Ruta N and the innovation district
Ruta N occupies a purpose-built campus in Medellín's Sevilla neighbourhood and has become the physical and institutional centre of the city's tech ecosystem. It directly supported 1,900+ startups and traditional companies in integrating into the innovation ecosystem and provides co-working space, investor access, corporate innovation matchmaking and connections to EAFIT and UdeA research output. Ruta N's backing from EPM - the utility that funds Medellín's urban transformation - gives it a structural permanence that private-sector accelerators rarely match.
B2B logistics, construction-tech and agritech lead
Tul - a Bogotá-founded but Medellín-expanded B2B construction materials marketplace backed by Tiger Global - represents the city's B2B commerce strength. Mensajeros Urbanos, Medellín's leading same-day delivery logistics platform, anchors the urban logistics cluster. The Antioquia region's agricultural base drives a disproportionate share of agritech product development. Medellín's Laureles district has also developed a growing software services export cluster.
El Poblado, Provenza and Laureles as the tech neighbourhoods
El Poblado - Medellín's most international neighbourhood - hosts the highest concentration of co-working spaces, international founders and investor offices, anchored around the Provenza sub-district where cafés and co-working converge. Laureles is the residential and software-services cluster preferred by local founders and EAFIT graduates. The Ruta N campus in Sevilla sits between the two as the institutional node.
Engineering talent from EAFIT and Universidad de Antioquia
EAFIT - ranked Colombia's second-best university for entrepreneurship - runs the On.going Impact Entrepreneurship Center, which has incubated 190+ initiatives. Alongside Universidad de Antioquia (UdeA), EAFIT feeds the primary engineering and software pipeline for Medellín's startups. The two institutions' proximity to Ruta N creates a tight feedback loop between academic research and commercial product development. EAFIT also co-created U Ventures - the first university-backed VC fund in Colombia.
Startups founded in or anchored to Medellín
Medellín's startup output is more B2B than Bogotá's - the city's construction, logistics and food industries create distinct demand for technology that has shaped its most notable companies.
Tul
Tul is a B2B marketplace for construction materials connecting hardware stores (ferreterías) directly with manufacturers across Colombia, Mexico and Brazil. Backed by Tiger Global and Andreessen Horowitz at a $400m+ valuation, Tul digitises a $50bn+ fragmented supply chain that has historically been managed through phone calls and cash payments.
Mensajeros Urbanos
Mensajeros Urbanos is Medellín's leading same-day last-mile delivery platform, connecting businesses with a network of urban delivery riders across Colombia's major cities. Founded in Medellín in 2013, it represents the city's urban logistics cluster and was an early beneficiary of Ruta N's accelerator infrastructure.
Tribe Payments (LaChain origin)
Medellín's fintech layer includes infrastructure companies processing payments for Latin American merchants - several with roots in the Ruta N ecosystem. The city's B2B fintech cluster is smaller than Bogotá's but focused on embedded finance, payment orchestration and treasury tooling for the construction and logistics sectors that anchor the local economy.
La Haus (Medellín presence)
La Haus is a Colombia-wide new-development real estate marketplace with a major operational presence in Medellín, Colombia's second-largest real estate market. The construction boom in El Poblado, Laureles and Envigado makes Medellín the second market by volume after Bogotá, and La Haus has dedicated local developer relations and sales teams in the city.
Frubana (Medellín operations)
Frubana operates significant distribution infrastructure in Medellín - the city's restaurant density and proximity to Antioquia's agricultural production makes it a key node in Frubana's B2B food supply chain. The company's local operations employ delivery, warehouse and operations talent from Medellín's logistics cluster.
Bitsion
Medellín is home to a growing cluster of AI and data analytics companies serving traditional industries - construction analytics, energy management and healthcare data are the recurring verticals. Bitsion and peers in the Ruta N campus represent the enterprise SaaS layer that has grown up alongside Medellín's large industrial base.
Government and public support for Medellín startups
Medellín's startup ecosystem was deliberately built by public institutions - Ruta N, the city government and Proantioquia - making government support programmes the most consequential entry point for founders in the city.
Ruta N
Ruta N is Medellín's public innovation and business centre, jointly created by the city government, EPM and UNE. It provides subsidised co-working in its Sevilla campus, runs structured acceleration and corporate innovation programmes, and connects startups to a network of 200+ corporate partners across construction, utilities, logistics and retail. Ruta N's backing from EPM gives it a budget and permanence atypical for public innovation agencies.
Endeavor Medellín
Endeavor Medellín is the Medellín chapter of the global Endeavor high-impact entrepreneur network. It runs a rigorous international selection process and provides selected founders with mentorship from a global network of scaled founders and executives, Endeavor Catalyst co-investment access and connections to Endeavor's US and European investor community. Medellín is one of the most active Endeavor offices in LatAm.
EAFIT On.going
EAFIT On.going is the impact entrepreneurship centre of Universidad EAFIT, running structured incubation for student and external founders. It has incubated 190+ initiatives since launch, with 40% formalised as operating businesses. Its U Ventures partnership created Colombia's first university-backed VC fund, providing seed capital directly from EAFIT's institutional balance sheet.
ProColombia / Proantioquia
Proantioquia is the regional private-sector development foundation for the Antioquia department, channelling corporate investment into startup ecosystems, education and economic development. For founders, it provides connections to the region's large traditional industries - construction, textiles, food processing - that are actively seeking technology partners and B2B software solutions.
iNNpulsa Colombia – Medellín
INNpulsa Colombia operates from Bogotá but is the primary source of non-reimbursable seed grants and structured acceleration cohorts available to Medellín-based startups. Founders in Antioquia apply through the same national platform, with Ruta N acting as a local delivery partner for INNpulsa's programmes in the city.
Tecnnova
Tecnnova is Medellín's technology transfer and knowledge marketplace, connecting university research output from UdeA, EAFIT and Universidad Nacional with companies seeking R&D partnerships. For founders building in deep-tech, agritech or biotech, Tecnnova provides the bridge to academic IP and research talent that accelerates product development.
