VC fundraising for e-commerce companies

Consumer e-commerce venture funding peaked in the 2018-2021 DTC era and corrected sharply as Amazon dependency, retail media costs and the AOV-versus-frequency tradeoff reset what investors underwrite. Capital is still available but concentrated in operators showing clean cohort retention, contribution after returns and marketplace fees, and a path beyond paid social. The bar now sits close to a packaged-goods standard.

Active cheque-writers split between consumer specialists - Forerunner, Bessemer and Greylock - and the generalists who stayed in the category, including Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz and Accel. At growth stage the venture and corp-dev arms of the major retail and CPG holdcos surface frequently, often as the bridge to a later acquisition. Flow has direct relationships with the consumer specialists, the generalists with active consumer books and the venture arms of the major retail and CPG groups.

Flow has experience running VC fundraising processes for consumer e-commerce companies across horizontal storefronts, vertical specialty retailers, DTC brands on their own commerce stack, marketplace-native sellers and resale and recommerce operators. Our extensive investor network spans early-stage seed funds, growth-stage investors, and strategic and corporate VC arms.
